Nahyan Bin Mubarak Opens 2025 IOD Global Convention In Dubai Focusing On Leadership And Innovation
The 12th Institute of Directors Global Convention commenced at Al Habtoor Palace in Dubai, inaugurated by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. The event, themed "Leadership for Business Excellence and Innovation," attracted global senior officials, business leaders, policy-makers, and academics. This gathering aims to foster discussions on leadership and innovation.
During the opening ceremony, Sheikh Nahyan highlighted the significance of ethical leadership. He emphasised four key traits: understanding organisational culture, embracing change, acting with social responsibility, and adopting a global perspective. He stated that leadership should drive innovation and sustainable success. "Leadership must be a force for innovation, knowledge creation and sustainable success," he said.
The convention is a collaborative effort between the Institute of Directors – India and Tristar Group – UAE. It brings together over 500 senior executives to discuss topics such as innovation, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), AI, climate action, stakeholder capitalism, and geopolitical risks. The theme is "Boards in a Rapidly Changing World: Innovative Strategies for Resilience and Sustainability."
Sheikh Nahyan awarded the IOD Distinguished Fellowship 2025 to Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri and Abdulla Ahmed Al Saleh during the ceremony. This recognition was for their contributions to governance and public leadership. Their efforts exemplify the values of ethical leadership promoted at the convention.
The opening session featured speeches from notable figures like Surinder Nath, President of IOD India; Nehal Vora, CEO of Central Depository Services Ltd; Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India; Eugene Mayne, CEO of Tristar Group; Ritu Raj Awasthi, Vice Chairman of IOD; and Sunjay Sudhir, Ambassador of India to the UAE. These speakers shared insights on strategic leadership in today's dynamic world.
The agenda also includes the UAE–India Investment and Cooperation Forum at the Consulate General of India in Dubai. Additionally, the Golden Peacock Awards 2025 will honour excellence in leadership, governance, innovation, and sustainability. These events underscore the commitment to fostering strong UAE–India relations.
Strengthening UAE–India Relations
Sheikh Nahyan praised the Institute of Directors – India for enhancing UAE–India ties through this convention. He acknowledged visionary leaders like President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for guiding UAE's progress. Their leadership serves as an inspiration for fostering international cooperation.
The 2025 Tristar–IOD Global Convention in the UAE highlights a shared dedication to ethical leadership and sustainable development among governments and enterprises. By focusing on inclusive growth strategies, it aims to address global challenges effectively while strengthening international partnerships.
