Nahyan Bin Mubarak Highlights UAE-Lebanon Ties At AUB Annual Gala Dinner In Abu Dhabi

The American University of Beirut (AUB) recently hosted its annual gala dinner at the InterContinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, attended the event. This gathering celebrated AUB alumni in the UAE and highlighted the strong academic and cultural connections between Lebanon and the UAE.

Sheikh Nahyan praised AUB for its role in education, research, and healthcare. He noted that AUB continues to thrive nearly 160 years after its founding. "I greet you all and warmly welcome you to this renewed celebration here in the UAE of the American University of Beirut – a globally renowned institution that, nearly 160 years after its establishment, continues to stand strong and successful," he stated.

The event underscored the deep ties between the UAE and Lebanon. Sheikh Nahyan emphasised that these relations are based on mutual respect and brotherhood. He highlighted the contributions of AUB graduates in the UAE, saying they play a significant role in national development under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's leadership.

Dr. Paul Morcos, Lebanon's Minister of Information, also addressed attendees. He spoke about cultural bonds between both nations and AUB's enlightening influence in the region. Dr. Morcos expressed gratitude for the invitation and acknowledged AUB as an institution that shapes leaders who excel across various fields.

Sheikh Nahyan reiterated the UAE's dedication to supporting universities' missions within Arab societies. The country promotes sustainable development, coexistence, peace, and understanding—values reflected in its "Year of Community" celebration. He described AUB as a centre for innovation and community service.

Dr. Morcos highlighted ongoing efforts by Lebanon's Ministry of Information to enhance media freedom responsibly. The ministry aims to reform Tele Liban, bolster public media, and combat misinformation with local and international partners' help.

The Lebanese community's expertise enriches various sectors within the UAE, according to Dr. Morcos. He affirmed that Lebanon views the UAE as a sincere partner supporting its growth. "It is our collective responsibility to continue investing in human potential," he said.
