Nacho Elvira Extends Lead As Winds Persist At Dubai Invitational

Strong winds again dominated play on Saturday at Dubai Creek Resort, where the Dubai Invitational continued to test the 2026 DP World Tour season opener field. Spain’s Nacho Elvira moved into a two-shot lead on eight under par after a controlled third-round 68.

The leaderboard behind Elvira stayed tight, with three players sharing second place on six under par. South Africa’s Dylan Frittelli posted the day’s lowest score, a bogey-free 66, to join Ireland’s Shane Lowry and England’s Marcus Armitage in a group chasing the tournament leader.

Elvira, who shared the halfway lead on Friday, remained consistent despite the gusts. The round included a single bogey at the seventh hole. Elvira then recovered with birdies at the ninth, 10th, 13th and 17th holes, keeping control of the Dubai Invitational heading into Sunday’s final round.

Frittelli’s rise through the Dubai Invitational field came from a run of early birdies. The South African started with three birdies in a row from the third hole. Further gains at the 11th and 18th holes completed a blemish-free 66 and confirmed Frittelli’s place in joint second.

Armitage also reached six under thanks to a notable closing birdie. The English player holed a 21-foot putt on the 18th green to match Frittelli’s total. First round co-leader and World Number Two Rory McIlroy carded a steady 68 and holds solo fifth on five under par.

Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen and South African Jacques Kruyswijk both produced clean cards of 66 to move to four under, alongside Spaniard David Puig. Away from the individual leaderboard, Geoff Wang won the 2026 Dubai Invitational Team Event with a 17 under par total.
