Muslim Council Of Elders Emphasises Lifelong Learning And Education Access For All Individuals

The Muslim Council of Elders, led by His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, highlights the vital role of education in promoting lifelong learning. This initiative is crucial for nurturing generations that uphold coexistence, tolerance, and human fraternity. On International Day of Education, January 24th, the Council stressed that inclusive education with equal opportunities is a fundamental right, especially in conflict-affected regions.

Investing in education is essential for equipping individuals with knowledge to keep up with technological progress and foster dialogue for sustainable development. The Council emphasised that Islam values knowledge as a cornerstone for building and advancing civilisations. They are committed to raising awareness about education's importance, combating intellectual illiteracy, correcting misconceptions, and countering extremist ideologies.

Promoting Lifelong Learning by the Muslim Council

The Muslim Council of Elders organises programmes to empower youth to embrace dialogue, tolerance, coexistence, and peace. One such initiative is the Ethics Education Fellowship Program for children. Conducted in collaboration with international organisations, it aims to instill human values within educational systems. This programme has reached over 8,000 children across six countries globally.

In Pakistan, the Azadi Fellowship has trained 25 young men and women from diverse sects to promote religious and cultural dialogue while countering extremism. These efforts are part of the Council's broader mission to foster understanding and cooperation among different communities.

The Global Student Dialogues Program is another significant initiative launched by the Council in partnership with Georgetown University. This programme educates university students about human fraternity values and strengthens interfaith and intercultural solidarity. Such initiatives are crucial in promoting mutual respect and understanding among diverse groups worldwide.

The Council's commitment extends beyond these programmes as they work tirelessly to eradicate intellectual illiteracy and promote tolerance through various educational efforts. By doing so, they aim to build a more harmonious world where people from different backgrounds can coexist peacefully.

Through these initiatives, the Muslim Council of Elders continues to champion education as a tool for fostering dialogue and understanding across cultures and religions. Their efforts highlight the importance of investing in education to create a future where peace and coexistence prevail.
