Muslim Council Of Elders Urges Strengthened Global Efforts For Coexistence And Peace

The Muslim Council of Elders has highlighted the urgent need for global cooperation to foster coexistence, tolerance, and peace. They have called for an end to ongoing wars and conflicts worldwide. The Council urges a unified strategy to combat hate speech, violence, and Islamophobia, which are seen as significant barriers to the progress of societies.

On 16 May, during the International Day of Living Together in Peace, the Council reiterated that Islamic teachings advocate for respect and human dignity regardless of race, colour, or religion. A verse from the Qur’an states: "O humanity! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may [get to] know one another" [Qur’an, 49: 13]. This underscores peace as a fundamental Islamic principle.

Promoting Coexistence and Peace Worldwide

The Council emphasised that peace is deeply embedded in Islamic values. It is considered a core ethic of the Muslim community and is integral to both spiritual and social aspects of Islamic life. This principle encourages understanding among different peoples and cultures.

Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, stressed the importance of prioritising dialogue and tolerance in today's world. He noted that escalating wars and rising hate speech necessitate a focus on coexistence and peace.

On this day dedicated to living together peacefully, Judge Abdelsalam urged reaffirmation of commitment to justice, equality, and respect for diversity. He highlighted human dignity as essential for development and progress. Peace is viewed as the only viable path toward a future free from divisions based on sectarianism or race.

The Council's statement serves as a reminder of the need for collective action against divisive forces. By embracing these values, societies can work towards stability and prosperity for future generations.
