Muslim Council Of Elders Celebrates Eleven Years Of Promoting Dialogue And Human Coexistence

The Muslim Council of Elders celebrates its eleventh anniversary today, led by His Eminence Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar. Established on 21 Ramadan 1435 AH (July 19, 2014), the Council consists of esteemed scholars and dignitaries from the Muslim world. These individuals are recognised for their wisdom and integrity. The Council aims to promote peace, dialogue, tolerance, and unity among Muslims.

Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Council, highlighted its dedication to peace and human fraternity over the past eleven years. He emphasised the importance of dialogue and mutual respect in fostering interreligious understanding. The Council also focuses on strengthening intra-Islamic dialogue to enhance unity and solidarity among Muslims.

Eleven Years of the Muslim Council of Elders

The Council has initiated East–West Dialogue Rounds in cities like Florence, Paris, Geneva, Cairo, Abu Dhabi, and Manama. These dialogues aim to promote peace through mutual understanding between religions and cultures. A significant outcome was the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity in February 2019 by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Pope Francis.

International Peace Convoys and Ramadan Missions have been launched by the Council to engage with communities worldwide. These initiatives aim to strengthen ties with Muslims globally while promoting moderate thought and correcting misconceptions about Islam. They also work towards countering hatred, racism, extremism, terrorism, and Islamophobia.

The Council has organised numerous international conferences addressing themes like peace, citizenship, diversity, coexistence, climate responsibility, and meaningful media discourse. These events aim to foster a deeper understanding among different cultures and religions while promoting universal human values.

The United Arab Emirates' support has been crucial for the Council's initiatives. Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam expressed gratitude on behalf of the Council's chairman, members, and staff for this continued backing. The UAE's wise leadership has played a vital role in entrenching values of peace and coexistence through these efforts.

Commitment to Universal Values

Year after year, the Muslim Council of Elders remains committed to spreading universal human values such as dialogue, tolerance, mutual respect, and acceptance of others. It works tirelessly to protect religious symbols and sanctities while presenting Islam's true image. The Council actively confronts hate speech, extremism, and Islamophobia.

The Muslim Council of Elders continues its mission to create a more peaceful future for humanity by strengthening ties with Muslim communities worldwide. Its efforts focus on promoting enlightened thought while encouraging positive integration across diverse societies.
