Muslim Council Of Elders Urges For Stronger Global Solidarity And Compassion

The Muslim Council of Elders, led by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, highlighted the urgent need to foster values of solidarity and compassion amidst global crises. They stressed that charity is a noble human value and a collective responsibility essential for building stable societies based on justice and equality.

The council emphasised that Islam encourages acts of kindness and fosters cooperation within society. It has laid the groundwork for a cohesive community marked by love and brotherhood, urging individuals to compete in doing good deeds and contributing to others' welfare. Charitable work is considered one of the greatest deeds in Islam, drawing a person closer to God.

Call for Global Solidarity

In their statement, the council called for intensified efforts to promote global solidarity and compassion, particularly focusing on addressing the needs of the most vulnerable segments of society. They underscored the importance of extending aid to the poor and needy as part of building sustainable societies.

The Muslim Council of Elders has been actively promoting human fraternity and global solidarity among all people. This effort is based on the principles outlined in the Document on Human Fraternity, co-signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019 by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb and Pope Francis. The document advocates providing aid to those in need regardless of their backgrounds or affiliations.

This document calls for support for weak, needy, marginalised individuals, displaced persons, war victims, oppressed individuals, prisoners, and other vulnerable groups. It aims to foster a spirit of cooperation and mutual support across different communities worldwide.

UAE's Humanitarian Efforts

The council praised the UAE Leadership's initiative to allocate $5 million for an emergency polio vaccination campaign in Gaza. This initiative followed the first reported case of polio in the region and was implemented with WHO, UNICEF, and UNRWA. The goal is to administer two doses of the polio vaccine to over 640,000 children under 10 years old in Gaza.

This campaign aims to stop the virus's spread and prevent a wider outbreak. The council noted that this reflects the UAE's ongoing humanitarian efforts and commitment to supporting global causes and assisting vulnerable communities worldwide.

The council reiterated that promoting values like charity helps build societies founded on justice and equality. They urged unified efforts to address global challenges through compassion and solidarity.
