Muslim Council Of Elders And Azerbaijan Forge Stronger Ties For Islamic Dialogue And Climate Action
The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, recently met with His Eminence Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh in Baku, Azerbaijan. Sheikh Pashazadeh is a member of the Muslim Council of Elders and the spiritual leader of Muslims in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus. Their discussion focused on enhancing Islamic dialogue and upcoming projects, including preparations for the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate and the Faith Pavilion at COP29.
Judge Abdelsalam highlighted the significance of the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate. This summit aims to unite faith leaders from around the world with environmental experts, academics, civil society representatives, youth, women, and indigenous peoples. The goal is to develop a shared vision to tackle climate change effectively.

During their meeting, His Eminence Sheikh Pashazadeh expressed his full support for the Muslim Council of Elders' efforts in addressing challenges faced by the Muslim community. Judge Abdelsalam also met with Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan's Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations. They discussed ways to enhance cooperation, particularly in organizing the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate to be hosted by Azerbaijan and the second edition of the Faith Pavilion at COP29.
Mammadov affirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to developing constructive cooperation and Islamic solidarity in various fields. He praised the strong relations between Azerbaijan and the Muslim Council of Elders. "The Council plays a pioneering role in establishing a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence," he noted.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Azerbaijan's exemplary model under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership.
