Muslim Council Of Elders Urges Action On Refugee Crisis
Under the leadership of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, the Muslim Council of Elders has highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis faced by millions of refugees and forcibly displaced individuals. These people have been compelled to leave their homes in search of safety and dignity, necessitating unified global efforts for effective solutions.
In a statement marking World Refugee Day, observed annually on 20th June, the Muslim Council of Elders stressed that temporary measures are inadequate to address the root causes of refugee and forced migration crises. These root causes include wars, armed conflicts, poverty, unemployment, and climate change.

The Council emphasised that international cooperation and humanitarian solidarity are essential for achieving a just and sustainable resolution to the refugee issue. Ensuring basic human rights for refugees is a priority that requires global attention and action.
The Muslim Council of Elders is actively engaged in raising awareness about refugee-related issues and advocating for their assistance in any necessary manner. The Council's efforts aim to bring attention to the plight of refugees and mobilise support for their cause.
The Document on Human Fraternity, co-signed by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb and His Holiness Pope Francis of the Catholic Church in Abu Dhabi in 2019, calls for alleviating the suffering of refugees, marginalised people, the poor, and those who have lost their homes. This document underscores that providing and protecting these individuals is a religious and societal necessity that must be upheld through binding international legislation.
The document advocates for inclusive support without discrimination or exclusion, highlighting the importance of addressing the needs of all affected individuals. It serves as a call to action for global leaders and communities to unite in their efforts to provide relief and support to those in need.
As the world observes World Refugee Day, the Muslim Council of Elders' message serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by refugees and forcibly displaced persons. The Council's call for unified global efforts underscores the importance of addressing these issues with compassion and urgency.
