Museums Commission Launches Red Sea Museum To Celebrate Jeddah's Cultural Heritage

The Red Sea Museum has been inaugurated at the historic Bab Al-Bunt building in Jeddah. This event was under the patronage of Deputy Governor of Makkah Region Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz and Minister of Culture Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan. The museum aims to document the tangible, intangible, and natural heritage of the Red Sea.

The museum's opening ceremony saw attendance from several princes, senior officials, and figures from cultural, artistic, and media sectors. In his speech, the minister highlighted that the museum provides a platform for creativity and intercultural dialogue. "The Red Sea Museum opens vast horizons for creativity and provides a comprehensive cultural platform that promotes intercultural dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and culture," he stated.

This initiative is part of efforts to revive Jeddah Historic District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kingdom is committed to preserving its cultural and natural heritage through this project. The museum is a key component in an ambitious journey to rejuvenate Historic Jeddah with strong leadership support.

Located at the intersection of land and sea, the museum resides in the restored Bab Al-Bunt building. This restoration adhered to high environmental sustainability standards for heritage buildings. It is part of Saudi Vision 2030's Quality of Life Program aimed at enhancing cultural infrastructure.

The Bab Al-Bunt building now serves as a cultural landmark connecting past and present. It showcases Historic Jeddah as a bridge between cultures along the Red Sea shores. The restoration also seeks to preserve Bab Al-Bunt's architectural spirit while reviving its historical role as a gateway to the world.

The museum offers an extensive cultural experience with over 1,000 archaeological and artistic pieces displayed across seven main themes in 23 exhibition halls. The collection includes navigational instruments, Chinese ceramics, manuscripts, rare photographs, and contemporary artworks by artists from Saudi Arabia and beyond.

The Red Sea Museum reflects Saudi Arabia's dedication to building a thriving cultural future enriched by diverse arts and expressions. It aims to boost sustainable urban cultural presence while preserving historical architecture.
