Ramadan Readiness Boosted As Municipalities Prepare For Final 10 Days For Umrah Visitors

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has launched intensive plans for the last ten days of Ramadan, raising municipal readiness in Makkah and Madinah. More than 18,000 personnel and nearly 6,000 vehicles and pieces of equipment are deployed, aiming to support Umrah performers and visitors and help them complete rituals in a safe and orderly setting.

The ministry stated that all measures form part of a wider government approach to serving Umrah performers and visitors in the two holy cities. The plans target the highest possible operational readiness during this busy period of Ramadan, when numbers of arrivals increase, and demand for municipal, health, and regulatory services grows sharply.

Ramadan Readiness for Umrah in Holy Cities

In Madinah, the municipality has adopted a comprehensive operational programme to match this peak season. The plan focuses on raising levels of facility cleanliness and environmental sanitation, while also monitoring the safety of infrastructure across neighbourhoods and main roads. Inspection tours of commercial and food outlets are being expanded to verify compliance with health standards and to protect product safety.

The municipality in Madinah is also running field campaigns that target commercial fraud and unlicensed selling activities. These efforts aim to regulate street vendors and protect consumers during the busy final days of Ramadan. Operational work in the city is supported by more than 5,000 personnel and over 1,230 vehicles and pieces of equipment, alongside electronic platforms that track reports and speed up handling of municipal service requests.

The Holy Makkah Municipality is focusing on the central area and locations around the Grand Mosque. More than 13,000 personnel are working around the clock to carry out cleaning and operational tasks. An integrated fleet of specialised vehicles and equipment supports these teams, helping maintain cleanliness in dense gathering points and smoothing the movement of worshippers and visitors.

Traffic and access to the Grand Mosque are being managed through a network of prepared parking sites. The municipality has readied five locations with space for more than 42,000 vehicles as part of an integrated traffic management system. This arrangement is designed to ease entry to the Grand Mosque and reduce congestion within the central area during the final days of Ramadan.

The ministry noted that its plans include improving cleaning efficiency, strengthening environmental sanitation, reinforcing infrastructure, and expanding field inspections of commercial and food establishments in both cities. These combined measures aim to protect service quality, public health, and safety, while aligning efforts between agencies to meet the needs of Umrah performers and visitors during the closing ten days of Ramadan.
