Diriyah Project Reveals Plans For Multi-Billion-Dollar Art Districts To Enhance Cultural Landscape

Diriyah Company has unveiled plans for two major educational and arts districts as part of the expansive $63.2 billion Diriyah project near Riyadh. This announcement was made during the second edition of "Bashayer - Delivering our Future," an international event that brought together investors, hospitality companies, construction firms, and experts from various sectors including sports, arts, culture, tourism, and retail.

The Qurain Cultural District is designed to be a lively global hub blending culture with modern urban life. It will feature diverse spaces for arts, retail, offices, and residences. Visitors can enjoy local brands and dining experiences. Cultural attractions will include a cinema, museums, and academies focusing on writing, traditional Najdi architecture, Arabic music, culinary arts, performing arts, and theater.

Diriyah Project Launches New Art Districts

The Qurain Cultural District will also host two luxury hotels: the Ritz-Carlton Diriyah with 195 rooms and 165 residences, and the Address Diriyah offering 204 rooms and 60 serviced apartments. The district will have 19 mixed-use buildings with office spaces and retail outlets. A SAR5.8 billion ($1.55 billion) contract has been signed for its development.

In contrast, the Northern District aims to establish Diriyah as a global center for scholars and visionaries. It will include the King Salman Foundation, museums, a university, a library, and a vibrant public square. The district will also feature Capella Diriyah's first Middle Eastern hotel with 100 rooms.

Construction in the Northern District began after securing a SAR7.8 billion ($2 billion) partnership in July 2024. This joint venture involves China State Construction Engineering Cooperation Limited and El Seif Engineering Contracting Co. Ltd., marking significant progress in transforming Diriyah into an educational hub.

Jerry Inzerillo, CEO of Diriyah Company Group, remarked on these developments: "Qurain Cultural District and Northern District are two of the most important and significant areas of the Diriyah masterplan... They will both become global centers of excellence... We are delighted to share details of these major developments at Bashayer."

The overarching Diriyah project is one of Saudi Arabia’s five giga-projects backed by the Public Investment Fund. It aims to house 100,000 residents while creating 178,000 jobs. The project is expected to attract 50 million visitors annually and contribute $18.6 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP.

These ambitious plans highlight Diriyah's potential as a cultural and educational beacon in Saudi Arabia. With substantial investments in infrastructure and development partnerships underway, Diriyah is set to become a prominent destination for learning and creativity on a global scale.
