Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open 2025 Welcomes Belinda Bencic And Paula Badosa To Star Line-Up
Belinda Bencic and Paula Badosa are the latest athletes confirmed for the 2025 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open. The third edition of this WTA-500 event is scheduled from February 1-8 at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City. Both players bring impressive records and are eager to compete in this prestigious tournament.
Bencic, a Swiss tennis star, first claimed victory at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open in 2023. She defeated Liudmila Samsonova to secure the title. Although she missed defending her title earlier this year due to pregnancy, she is set to return. Bencic has won eight singles titles on the WTA Tour and achieved Olympic gold in Tokyo by defeating Markéta Vondroušová.

Badosa, who resides in Dubai, is currently ranked 12th globally. She recently won her fourth WTA Tour title at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in August, entering as a wildcard and defeating Marie Bouzkova in the final. This will be Badosa's debut at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open after missing previous editions due to illness and injury.
Reflecting on her return, Bencic expressed her excitement: "I’m so excited to return to the UAE and compete in the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open once again. Winning this tournament in 2023 was an unforgettable moment in my career, and I’m looking forward to coming back as a new mother and experiencing the amazing atmosphere."
Badosa shared her enthusiasm about participating: "I’m thrilled to be competing in the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open. It’s a tournament I’ve wanted to play since it began in 2023, but unfortunately I had to withdraw previously due to injuries, however I’m determined to make the most of this opportunity in 2025!"
The tournament will feature a strong line-up of 28 top players. Among them is Ons Jabeur from Tunisia, a three-time Grand Slam finalist returning after a shoulder injury. Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, who reached the semi-finals in the last two editions of this event, will also compete.
Bencic added about her journey back: "It’s been a special journey returning to the tour after giving birth, and I can’t wait to be back on court in a place which holds such special memories." Her determination highlights her commitment to making an impactful return.
Badosa also praised Abu Dhabi's vibrant atmosphere: "Abu Dhabi is an incredible city with amazing fans, and the tournament always attracts such a strong field. I’m feeling good about my form right now, and I’m looking forward to showing what I’m capable of in February."
The anticipation for this event continues to grow as these talented players prepare for intense competition. Fans can expect thrilling matches from some of tennis' finest athletes at this prestigious tournament.
