Morocco To Shine As Guest Of Honour At The 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair
Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), emphasised Morocco's pivotal role as a cultural crossroads. She highlighted cities like Fez, Marrakech, and Rabat as symbols of Islamic history and Arab civilisation. This statement followed an agreement between SBA and Morocco's Books, Libraries, and Archives Authority.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Moroccan Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, and Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA. Morocco will be the Guest of Honour at the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) in November at Expo Centre Sharjah. The event will feature writers, thinkers, and cultural figures globally.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi expressed excitement about Morocco's participation in SIBF 2024. She noted Morocco's significant cultural and intellectual contributions. She also mentioned Sharjah's role as a hub for global cultures under the guidance of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi.
Sheikha Bodour stated that SIBF serves as a gateway to Arabic literature and culture, enhancing the UAE’s reputation as a centre for thought and creativity. The fair provides a platform for writers, thinkers, and artists to express their creativity and exchange ideas.
Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid highlighted the importance of hosting Morocco at SIBF 2024 during a transformative period in Moroccan-Emirati relations. He stressed that this development would elevate cultural relations to match the high level of political and economic ties between the two nations.
The Minister noted that Morocco's presence as Guest of Honour would initiate an advanced phase of coordination, cooperation, and expertise exchange. This initiative aims to advance joint efforts in the cultural sector.
A Leading Cultural Model
Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, stated that celebrating Morocco as Guest of Honour reflects SBA's commitment to fostering cultural dialogue. He praised Morocco's rich history and unique cultural identity, which merges various influences into a cohesive whole.
Al Ameri added that hosting Morocco aligns with the vision of H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah and Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi in promoting global cultural exchange. The goal is to embrace new experiences by transcending boundaries.
Moroccan Pavilion at SIBF 2024
The Moroccan pavilion at SIBF 2024 will feature publications, historical documents, and a diverse cultural programme. Events will include panel discussions, workshops, and artistic performances. Visitors will gain insights into Morocco's history, civilisation, and arts.
The pavilion will also highlight Moroccan culture, knowledge, and thinkers. Several Moroccan authors will share their experiences and expertise with visitors at the fair.
