MoHRE Conducts Workshop to Streamline Labour Dispute Resolutions in UAE
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) recently held an informative workshop aimed at enhancing the understanding of labour dispute resolution procedures among legal representatives from the private sector and media organizations. This initiative aligns with the Federal Decree law No 20 of 2023, which amends certain provisions of Federal Decree Law No 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Employment Relationships, and Federal Decree-Law No 21 of 2023, amending provisions of Federal Decree-Law No 9 of 2022 concerning Domestic Workers.
The workshop, conducted in both Arabic and English at MoHRE's Dubai headquarters, sought to elevate awareness regarding critical legislation pertinent to labour disputes. It emphasized the importance of compliance with these laws to ensure a fair and transparent legislative environment that upholds integrity and impartiality. MoHRE has established a framework for settling labour disputes with a final decision, which becomes an executive order under specific conditions. Notably, this applies when the total value of the dispute does not exceed AED50,000 or relates to non-compliance with a previous amicable settlement decision issued by MoHRE, irrespective of the claimed amount.

For disputes exceeding AED50,000, MoHRE's approach remains focused on seeking amicable settlements. Should these efforts not result in a resolution, the cases will be forwarded to the relevant court for adjudication. This process underscores the UAE's commitment to continuous legislative development aimed at enhancing its global competitiveness. By reducing labour disputes and expediting their resolution, the UAE safeguards the rights of all employment contract parties within a framework renowned for its fairness and transparency.
The effectiveness of these measures is reflected in the UAE labour market's top ranking on the Lack of Labour Disputes indice in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2022. This prestigious recognition is issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) based in Switzerland, highlighting the UAE's successful strategies in creating a stable and dispute-free labour environment.
This workshop represents a significant step forward in MoHRE's ongoing efforts to educate and inform stakeholders about the latest legal frameworks governing employment relationships in the UAE. By fostering a deeper understanding among legal departments within the private sector and media outlets, MoHRE aims to ensure that labour disputes are resolved efficiently and fairly, further enhancing the UAE's position as a leading competitive labor market on the global stage.
