MoHAP Hosts Workshop On Medical Committee Standards For Evaluating Cancer Cases In The UAE
The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) recently organised a workshop in Dubai to discuss Ministerial Resolution No. 25 of 2025. This resolution requires the formation of multidisciplinary teams to evaluate cancer cases in UAE hospitals. The aim is to align cancer care with international standards by setting up specialised committees in oncology hospitals to assess cases, define treatment pathways, and enhance service efficiency.
The resolution is part of the National Cancer Control Plan, which aims for a 30% reduction in cancer-related deaths by 2030, aligning with the World Health Organization’s Global Action Plan. It supports MoHAP’s efforts to advance healthcare, reduce cancer mortality, and improve quality of life. The medical committees will create tailored treatment plans based on global clinical guidelines.

Dr Hussein Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector at MoHAP, stated that the resolution supports national strategies to boost quality of life and enhance healthcare system performance. "The resolution supports national strategies to boost quality of life and enhance the healthcare system’s performance," he said.
The workshop brought together MoHAP officials, healthcare professionals, and oncology experts from both public and private sectors. It aimed to introduce the resolution’s main provisions and implementation strategies, focusing on strengthening coordination and ensuring patient-focused care. Dr Buthaina Bin Belaila, Head of the Non-Communicable Diseases and Mental Health Department at MoHAP, highlighted the workshop's role in equipping professionals with knowledge about the resolution.
Multidisciplinary teams are crucial in minimising medical errors and ensuring quality care. These teams will monitor treatment progress, assess therapeutic impact, and update plans as needed. No treatment or surgical procedure can proceed without a committee-approved plan recorded in the patient's file.
The resolution also aims to improve patient recovery rates, shorten diagnosis-to-treatment times, and enhance access to information and psychological care. By establishing these specialised committees, MoHAP seeks to bring cancer care in line with international best practices while supporting improved patient outcomes across UAE hospitals.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing cancer care services within the UAE's healthcare system. By fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals through multidisciplinary teams, MoHAP aims to ensure comprehensive and effective treatment for cancer patients throughout the country.
