MoHAP Unveils 'Redefine Yourself In Ramadan' For Healthier Lifestyle Choices

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has initiated a significant health awareness campaign titled "Redefine Yourself in Ramadan" to coincide with the holy month. This initiative is designed to enhance health consciousness and encourage the adoption of healthier lifestyles among UAE residents. By offering health consultations, educational resources, and promoting the principles of choosing, cooking, and eating healthily, the campaign addresses critical health aspects such as improving sleep patterns and aiding in smoking cessation.

At the heart of this campaign is the use of social media platforms to spread messages on the importance of healthy living during Ramadan. The initiative is made more engaging through "Ramadan riddles," interactive quizzes, and a 30-day physical activity challenge. This challenge is notably supported by complimentary access to sports clubs throughout the UAE, along with organized sports activities and workshops in health and leisure clubs. These workshops focus on pre-shopping planning to encourage healthy dietary choices during fasting.

The campaign also offers guidance on adopting healthier eating habits. This includes increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables, managing meal portions, and suggesting healthier dietary alternatives like opting for baked or grilled foods over fried ones and reducing salt intake. These recommendations aim to foster a healthier community during Ramadan and beyond.

Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, expressed MoHAP's commitment to enhancing societal health awareness through annual Ramadan-timed initiatives. "Our goal is to embed healthy behaviours that contribute to the reduction of heart disease, obesity, and diabetes, thus improving our national health indicators," he stated. Dr Al Rand highlighted the importance of specialized awareness campaigns during Ramadan due to significant dietary and lifestyle changes, especially after Iftar.

He further elaborated on the necessity of launching health awareness initiatives tailored to Ramadan's unique dietary patterns. MoHAP's focus is on creating campaigns that resonate with these specific needs to support and enhance public health and quality of life during the holy month and thereafter.

Nouf Khamis Al Ali, Director of the Health Promotion Department at MoHAP, underscored the campaign's critical impact. She pointed out that Ramadan offers an excellent opportunity for the community to embrace healthier lifestyles. Khamis stressed the importance of consuming a balanced diet, engaging in daily exercise for at least 30 minutes, and quitting smoking. She also recommended breaking the fast with a nutritious meal to provide essential energy and aid digestion post-fasting.

Khamis encouraged community engagement with the health awareness campaign through MoHAP's social media channels. This approach aims to extend the campaign’s reach to a broader audience and achieve its objective of improving the overall quality of healthy living among UAE residents.
