MoHAP Launches Campaign To Harmonise Organ And Blood Donation Efforts Across UAE

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has introduced a new initiative to unify organ and blood donation efforts across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. This campaign, launched at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dubai, aligns with the UAE's vision to advance its leadership in sustainable health services. It supports the "We UAE 2031" initiative by integrating organ and blood donation to boost community giving and improve quality of life.

Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Health Regulation Sector, highlighted the continuous success of the "Hayat" program during his keynote speech. He stated that this innovative campaign will enhance the UAE's leadership in blood donation and self-sufficiency. The initiative aims to raise awareness about organ and blood donation as noble humanitarian acts while promoting healthy living and chronic disease prevention.

MoHAP Initiates Organ and Blood Donation Campaign

The campaign is part of a broader plan to implement international best practices in organ donation. It focuses on enhancing medical staff capabilities through capacity building and knowledge exchange. Additionally, it aims to develop innovative awareness programs targeting various societal segments. Strengthening partnerships with health and academic institutions is also a key aspect of this initiative.

Dr. Ali Abdulkarim Al Obaidli, Chairman of the National Committee for Organ Transplantation, noted significant increases in organ donations under the Hayat program. He attributed this success to seamless integration efforts that have positioned the UAE as a global leader in organ transplantation. The program has fostered community solidarity, offering hope to patients needing transplants.

The event included a presentation highlighting achievements of UAE blood banks, along with personal stories from donors' families and transplant recipients. A ceremony honoured participating blood banks for their substantial health and humanitarian contributions. These efforts underscore the strong commitment to sustainability within the health sector.

Dr. Al Obaidli emphasised that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to set global standards for organ donation awareness as a noble humanitarian act. He highlighted the UAE's strong capabilities in skilled medical staff, advanced healthcare facilities, cutting-edge technological infrastructure, and valuable international partnerships with leading institutions worldwide.

To date, 30,388 individuals have enrolled in the Hayat program, showcasing its success in promoting sustainability within healthcare. This campaign marks a significant milestone in its journey towards achieving these goals.

This collaborative effort between MoHAP's Hayat Organ Donation Program and regional blood banks aims to harmonise organ and blood donation initiatives across key cities in the UAE. By fostering a culture of giving back to society through these vital healthcare areas, it seeks to establish the nation as a global leader in both fields.
