Mohammed Bin Rashid School Launches New Bachelor’s Programme In Game Design And Development For 2025-26

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Communication (MBRSC) at the American University in Dubai (AUD) is launching a Bachelor of Science in Game Design and Development. This programme, starting in the 2025-26 academic year, aims to equip students with essential skills for the global gaming industry. Developed with the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, it offers a curriculum matching top global standards.

Supported by the Dubai Media Council, this initiative aims to bolster Dubai's status as a media innovation hub. The programme aligns with the Council’s strategy to nurture specialised media talent and enhance leadership in digital entertainment. The recent creation of the Dubai Films and Games Commission further supports these goals.

New Bachelor’s Programme in Game Development

The degree offers two concentrations: Game Design and Game Development. The Game Design track emphasises storytelling, world-building, visual aesthetics, and user experience. Meanwhile, the Game Development track covers programming, software tools, game engines, and immersive technologies.

Sophie Boutros, Executive Director at MBRSC, stated that this programme is a significant step in preparing students for a dynamic media landscape. "The introduction of the Bachelor of Science in Game Design and Development marks another important milestone in our mission to prepare students to excel in a rapidly changing media landscape," she said.

Hesham Al Olama from the Dubai Media Council highlighted the initiative’s alignment with their vision for Dubai as a leader in media innovation. He noted that supporting world-class academic programmes fosters a future-ready media industry driven by local talent. "Our goal is to create new growth pathways for emerging talent," he added.

The programme will help students develop skills to design engaging games using industry-standard tools. They will learn narrative and artistic techniques to enhance player immersion while gaining experience in multidisciplinary collaboration and understanding ethical aspects of the industry.

Boutros also mentioned that collaborating with USC’s School of Cinematic Arts ensures students receive both creative training and technical knowledge. This combination prepares them to shape future immersive entertainment and interactive content.

Graduates will be equipped to create functional games optimised for various platforms. They will also understand commercial aspects of gaming, preparing them for diverse roles within the industry.
