Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Engages With Colombia's President Gustavo Petro At World Governments Summit 2025

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, engaged in discussions with Gustavo Petro Urrego, President of Colombia. This meeting took place at the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025 in Dubai. The summit, which started on Tuesday, will continue until 13 February under the theme ‘Shaping Future Governments’.

The meeting was attended by several key figures including H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai; H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai; and other prominent UAE officials. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations between the UAE and Colombia and exploring opportunities for cooperation across various sectors.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed emphasised the UAE's dedication to fostering global cooperation and improving government efficiency and innovation. He noted that collaboration among nations is crucial for developing strategies to address global changes, ensuring sustainable development for future generations. The summit serves as a platform for exchanging ideas and perspectives globally.

President Urrego expressed appreciation for the strong ties between Colombia and the UAE. He acknowledged their shared commitment to advancing international cooperation and strengthening governance frameworks to tackle developmental priorities and economic challenges. He praised the summit's role in shaping governance's future and addressing critical global issues.

The World Governments Summit 2025 hosts over 30 heads of state and government, more than 80 international organisations, and 140 government delegations. The agenda includes 21 global forums focusing on future trends, over 200 interactive sessions featuring more than 300 speakers—including presidents, ministers, experts—and over 30 ministerial meetings attended by more than 400 ministers.

The summit will also release 30 strategic reports in collaboration with leading international knowledge partners. These reports aim to provide insights into key future trends and transformations affecting governments worldwide.

His Highness welcomed President Urrego’s participation in WGS 2025. President Urrego is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on the second day of the summit. This highlights the importance of international dialogue in shaping effective governance strategies.
