Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives Resumes AED43 Million Food Aid Deliveries To Gaza
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) has resumed food aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip, valued at AED43 million. This initiative aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The aid is being delivered in partnership with the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to assist vulnerable families.
MBRGI's commitment to providing food aid was reaffirmed in January 2024, with a pledge of AED43 million (US$11.7 million) in collaboration with the WFP. This initiative aims to benefit one million people in Gaza. The resumption of aid follows the reopening of Gaza’s border crossings and is part of the UAE's continuous support through land, sea, and air channels.
In 2023, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum directed MBRGI to allocate AED50 million for urgent aid to Palestinians. Additionally, Dubai Humanitarian sent a relief shipment via Egypt's El Arish port in September 2024, containing 71.6 tons of medical supplies for Gaza. These efforts highlight the UAE's ongoing humanitarian commitment.
MBRGI also pledged approximately AED37 million (US$10 million) in January 2024 to support Gaza's health sector. This funding focuses on essential medical supplies, particularly for children. The organisation’s dedication extends beyond food aid, addressing critical healthcare needs as well.
Samer AbdelJaber, WFP Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe, stated: "The partnership between MBRGI and WFP embodies a shared commitment to providing food assistance and alleviating suffering for communities worldwide. This is clearly demonstrated today in our joint efforts to support the people of Gaza and offer them hope."
MBRGI stands as the largest foundation of its kind in the region. In 2024 alone, it spent over AED2.2 billion, benefiting around 149 million people across 118 countries. Its initiatives are categorised under five main pillars: Humanitarian Aid & Relief; Healthcare & Disease Control; Spreading Education & Knowledge; Innovation & Entrepreneurship; and Empowering Communities.
Long-standing Legacy of Giving
Since its inception in 2015, MBRGI has consolidated over 30 initiatives aimed at addressing global challenges. It invests in human capital by spreading education, combating poverty and disease, and promoting tolerance. Within its Humanitarian Aid & Relief pillar alone, spending exceeded AED944 million in 2024, reaching more than 37 million individuals globally.
The foundation’s long-standing legacy continues with these recent efforts to provide essential support to Gaza’s population. By partnering with organisations like WFP and focusing on various sectors such as healthcare and education, MBRGI remains committed to making a significant impact worldwide.
