Mohamed Bin Zayed University For Humanities Launches Initiative To Promote Emirati Heritage And Cultural Sustainability

The Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities (MBZUH) has introduced the Authentic Identity and Sustainable Heritage initiative. This project aims to enhance awareness of Emirati heritage while connecting it to cultural and social sustainability principles. It aligns with the UAE's vision of preserving its authenticity and strengthening its civilizational legacy.

Dr. Khalifa Mubarak Al Dhaheri, Chancellor of MBZUH, highlighted the university's dedication to maintaining national identity elements. He stated, "The Authentic Identity and Sustainable Heritage initiative represents the university's steadfast commitment to preserving the components of national identity, aligning with the UAE wise leadership’s vision of achieving a balance between the nation's civilisational progress and pride in its authentic roots."

MBZUH Launches Emirati Heritage Initiative

The initiative includes various events and interactive programmes that help students explore and understand Emirati national identity deeply. These activities are designed to transform national identity from a concept into a continuous, living experience. They focus on linking Emirati heritage authenticity with sustainability principles for students.

Among these activities are workshops on Emirati coffee traditions (Sana’ al-Qahwa). Students learn about preparing and serving coffee, which is central to Emirati culture, reflecting hospitality values. The university also offers training on falconry, symbolising strength and courage, aiming to revive this traditional sport by passing its skills to new generations.

The initiative seeks to empower young people by helping them understand their role in preserving heritage for future generations. By doing so, it strengthens efforts toward cultural sustainability. The programmes launched under this initiative contribute significantly to preserving Emirati identity and culture.

Al Dhaheri affirmed that these initiatives align with leadership's vision of solidifying heritage elements while fostering pride in them. This approach enhances the UAE's global standing as an advanced nation, promoting cultural dialogue and encouraging peace, tolerance, and coexistence.

The university's strategy supports efforts to protect national identity across generations. It aims to ensure that students not only learn about but also live their national identity through engaging experiences that highlight the importance of heritage preservation.
