Misk And Gates Foundation Unveil Challenge For Change Program To Empower Saudi Youth
The Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (Misk) and the Gates Foundation have introduced the Challenge for Change program. This initiative aims to empower Saudi nonprofit organisations and social enterprises to develop innovative solutions for global development challenges. The launch event was held at Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City, celebrating participants who are helping position Saudi youth at the forefront of global innovation.
Through a comprehensive learning journey, the Challenge for Change program embodies Misk’s vision of an integrated, youth-focused ecosystem. It aims to enable Saudi youth to drive transformation and create positive impacts locally and globally. The program partners with leading global institutions, including the Gates Foundation, providing young changemakers access to world-class expertise and content.

The initiative targets critical development issues across three main tracks: Technology, Environment, and Health and Quality of Life. Participants will engage in a seven-week immersive learning experience that includes mentorship, training, and guided project development. They have the chance to win up to SAR1 million per track to support their solution implementation.
Fifteen initiatives from Saudi nonprofit organisations and social enterprises have been selected to compete across these tracks. This selection further reinforces the role of Saudi youth in advancing sustainable development both locally and internationally. Such initiatives by Misk equip Saudi youth with essential skills across various life and career stages.
Misk Foundation CEO Dr. Badr Al Badr stated: "The Challenge for Change program is more than just a competition; it is a practical platform that connects the energy of local youth with global expertise to create innovative, real-world solutions for challenges impacting our communities. Our partnership with the Gates Foundation serves as a strong model of collaborative efforts that drive meaningful impact."
Gates Foundation Deputy Director for the Middle East James Carty said: "This program is a testament to what’s possible when global and local partnerships align to drive change. Our collaboration with Misk enables young people in Saudi Arabia to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges, creating meaningful impact that extends beyond borders."
Nurturing Future Leaders
These initiatives led by Misk empower Saudi youth by nurturing future leaders and supporting youth-led nonprofit organisations through a diverse portfolio of programs. These programs aim to create tangible community impacts while equipping young individuals with necessary skills.
The Challenge for Change program reflects Misk's commitment to fostering an environment where young Saudis can lead transformative projects. By collaborating with international experts, participants gain valuable insights into addressing significant development issues effectively.
