Ministry Of Sport Enhances Community Engagement And Talent Development In Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Sport in Saudi Arabia is actively working to embed sports into everyday life, aiming to create a lively sporting culture for all ages. This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on building an ambitious nation, a thriving economy, and a vibrant society. The ministry's efforts have led to significant achievements in increasing physical activity rates among both adults and children.
By 2025, the percentage of adults engaging in at least 150 minutes of physical activity weekly reached 59.1%. This figure not only surpassed the 2025 target of 55% but also exceeded the 2027 goal of 58%. Similarly, children's physical activity rates have hit 19%, meeting the target set for 2029. These milestones were achieved through collaboration with various public and private sector institutions.

The Ministry has launched several community sports initiatives to encourage participation. One notable event is the Riyadh Marathon, organized with the Saudi Sports for All Federation. The latest edition saw over 40,000 participants from 144 countries. Such events play a crucial role in fostering a love for sports within local communities.
To further boost the sports sector, the ministry introduced "Nafes," a platform that facilitates investment by issuing licenses for clubs, gyms, and sports academies. This initiative allows both local and international investors to contribute directly to the development of sports infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
In addition to these efforts, partnerships with entities like the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing and the Sports Boulevard Foundation are pivotal. These collaborations aim to promote sports across communities by integrating sporting facilities into urban planning and development projects.
Developing Future Athletes
The ministry is also focused on nurturing young talent through initiatives like the school football league for male and female students. This program attracted over 42,000 participants and helped identify promising young athletes who could represent Saudi Arabia in future competitions.
Hosting major international sporting events has been another strategy to inspire local engagement in sports. So far, Saudi Arabia has hosted 130 such events, providing opportunities for residents to experience world-class competitions firsthand.
The Ministry of Sport's comprehensive approach underscores its commitment to fostering a vibrant sporting community in Saudi Arabia. By integrating sports into daily life and encouraging participation across all age groups, it aims to build a healthier society aligned with national goals.
