Saudi Ministry Of Finance Unveils Financial And Economic Dictionary To Enhance Communication

The Ministry of Finance has introduced the Financial and Economic Dictionary at the Budget Forum 2026. This initiative is a collaborative effort with the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSGAAL) and several government bodies, including the Ministry of Economy and Planning and the Capital Market Authority. The dictionary aims to standardise financial terms in Arabic and English, enhancing communication within the financial sector.

Deputy Minister of Finance for Communication and Media, Hassan Alshaikh, highlighted that this dictionary plays a crucial role in unifying financial language. It enhances communication accuracy among government entities, private sectors, and academia. He noted that it aligns with Saudi Vision 2030's goal of fostering a knowledge-based economy. Alshaikh also mentioned that this initiative supports the Kingdom's efforts to empower Arabic through linguistic and technological advancements.

Launch of Financial and Economic Dictionary

The dictionary serves as an educational tool, supporting researchers, students, and decision-makers. It includes over 2,000 terms with precise definitions in both languages. These cover fiscal policies, investment strategies, economic planning, financing mechanisms, and market instruments. This resource aims to enhance performance and facilitate scientific communication within financial institutions.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Washmi, Secretary-General of KSGAAL, stated that this publication is part of their ongoing efforts to create specialised dictionaries. As the main linguistic authority for Arabic in Saudi Arabia, KSGAAL has launched dictionaries in fields like energy and AI over recent years. Dr. Al-Washmi emphasised that these efforts strengthen Arabic’s role in scientific disciplines.

This project reflects a broader collaboration between various entities to promote the Arabic language regionally and internationally. Dr. Al-Washmi praised this partnership for its contribution to building accredited Arabic references in scientific fields. The dictionary also supports academic content creation by providing accurate definitions for key financial concepts.

The Ministry of Finance stated that this dictionary will raise financial awareness across different sectors. It facilitates effective communication among government institutions, financial entities, and academia by providing standardised terminology. This initiative represents a qualitative addition to the financial sector in Saudi Arabia.

The dictionary was developed with input from key government entities such as the Expenditure and Project Efficiency Authority and the National Debt Management Center. It is designed to support academic research while enhancing professional communication within economic institutions.

This initiative marks a significant step towards building a comprehensive reference for financial terms in both languages. By doing so, it strengthens the position of Arabic in economic disciplines while supporting Saudi Arabia's vision for a knowledge-based economy.
