Ministry Of Finance Engages Emirati Students In Washington On International Finance Careers
The UAE Ministry of Finance recently held an informative session at the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC. This event gathered Emirati students studying in the US to introduce them to the UAE Global Cadres initiative. The initiative focuses on exploring training and career opportunities within international financial organisations, aiming to empower national talent for roles in these institutions.
Younis Haji AlKhoori, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, highlighted the strategic importance of the UAE Global Cadres initiative. He stated that it aims to prepare young Emiratis for representation in international financial bodies. "Through this initiative, we aim to provide clear pathways for secondment, training, and employment in the world’s leading financial organisations, enhancing the competence of our national talent and opening doors to influential leadership roles on the global stage," he said.

The session was attended by key figures including Ali Abdullah Sharafi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for International Financial Relations; Azza Ali AlJassmi, Director of Government Communication; and Thuraiya Hamid AlHashmi, Director of International Financial Relations and Organisations. Representatives from both the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were present to discuss recruitment processes and professional growth opportunities at their institutions.
Alia Al Suwaidi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC, expressed enthusiasm about engaging with Emirati students in the US. She noted that these gatherings not only enrich students' knowledge but also help them build networks that support future careers. "We believe in their vital role as ambassadors of our nation’s values on the international stage," she added.
The session provided insights into key training programmes offered by international financial institutions where the UAE is involved. Students actively participated by asking questions about application procedures, admission criteria, and popular specialisations within these organisations. They showed interest in understanding how to work effectively in multicultural environments and pursue long-term careers globally.
Representatives from WBG and IMF outlined significant career paths available through specialised programmes for Emirati youth. These sessions are part of a broader effort by the UAE to strengthen strategic ties with international financial entities. The goal is to support national talent in fields like economics, finance, accounting, and international relations.
Strategic Initiatives for Future Leaders
This awareness session is one among many organised by the Ministry of Finance alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These activities take place in major cities hosting international financial institutions. They aim to familiarise Emirati students with necessary specialisations and pathways into these organisations.
The initiative aligns with UAE government efforts to prepare national talent through strategic programmes impacting both society and global platforms. It underscores a commitment to investing in human capital as a valuable asset for future leadership roles worldwide.
