Saudi Ministry Of Environment Highlights AI And Drone Integration At SAADEF 2024
The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture in Saudi Arabia is emphasising the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and drones into agriculture and other sectors. This initiative aims to boost investment in these technologies, positioning Saudi Arabia as a leader in their production and marketing. This aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. The announcement was made at the Saudi Arabia AI and Drones Exhibition and Forum (SAADEF) 2024, held over three days at the Arena Riyadh Venue.
The event, titled "The Integration of Drones and Artificial Intelligence," has drawn significant international interest from technology experts, industry leaders, and investors focused on AI and drone innovations. Dr. Abdul Hamid Al-Aliwi, General Supervisor of the Environment Ministry's Agency for Information Technology and Digital Transformation, spoke at the opening ceremony. He explained that SAADEF aims to promote digital transformation and innovation within the Kingdom.

Dr. Al-Aliwi highlighted that leveraging emerging technologies like drones supports digital transformation objectives. These efforts are intended to enhance the digital economy while contributing to food security and environmental conservation, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030's ambitions. Drones can be used in smart irrigation by providing precise data on soil moisture levels, detecting water accumulation, and monitoring dams.
The ministry plans to offer drone services to small farms for tasks such as crop spraying, inspection, and mapping. Drones also play a crucial role in environmental protection by monitoring poaching activities, tracking biodiversity, and reducing encroachments in protected areas. They improve wildlife surveys and biodiversity monitoring, especially for endangered species in regions difficult to access through traditional agricultural methods.
The forum has attracted extensive international participation from experts in technology fields related to AI and drones. Industry leaders have gathered to discuss innovations that could transform various sectors within Saudi Arabia. The event serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and exploring potential collaborations that could drive technological advancements in the Kingdom.
By integrating AI and drones into agriculture, Saudi Arabia aims to modernise its farming practices while ensuring sustainable development. These technologies offer solutions that can address challenges such as water scarcity and land management more effectively than conventional methods.
This strategic move by the ministry not only supports local farmers but also positions Saudi Arabia as a hub for technological innovation in agriculture. By focusing on emerging technologies, the Kingdom seeks to create new opportunities for growth while preserving its natural resources.
As part of this initiative, the ministry is committed to fostering an environment where technology can thrive alongside traditional practices. This approach ensures that advancements benefit both current stakeholders and future generations.
