Ministry Of Environment, Water And Agriculture Honoured With Global ESG Award For Excellence In Sustainability Partnerships
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) in Saudi Arabia has been recognised with a prestigious award at the GLOBAL ESG AWARDS in Dubai. The ministry received the Platinum category prize for its efforts in Partnerships, aligning with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17. This accolade acknowledges MEWA's excellence in forming and managing research and innovation partnerships across various sectors.
Deputy Assistant for Support and Enable Research and Innovation, Dr. Abdullah Alradadi, highlighted the importance of investing in research as a pathway for future generations. He stated that addressing global sustainability challenges requires partnerships that combine scientific knowledge with innovation and international cooperation. These collaborations are crucial for advancing food and water security alongside environmental sustainability.

The ministry's initiatives align with the "Technology Adoption Roadmap," an Executive Plan for Research and Innovation launched by Minister Abdulrahman Alfadley last year. These partnerships are essential to this plan, helping MEWA drive progress toward its goals. The ministry aims to strengthen its position in agriculture, water, and environment sectors while establishing strategic connections globally.
The Saudi AgriFood Tech Alliance is a significant initiative launched by Vice Minister Eng. Mansour Almushaiti. It serves as a platform uniting government, academic, private, and non-profit entities to promote agricultural sustainability. With over 120 members, the alliance is committed to enhancing food security through collaborative efforts.
Dr. Alradadi also mentioned the Water Strip Initiative, a major project along Saudi Arabia's western coast spanning 40 kilometres. This initiative aims to rapidly advance technologies related to water desalination, recycling, and climate resilience. It seeks to create an ecosystem that attracts investment, boosts research, and accelerates technology commercialisation.
Global Recognition
The GLOBAL ESG AWARDS encompass 22 categories reflecting the UN's 17 SDGs, including climate action promotion and biodiversity protection. MEWA's participation aligns with its strategic objectives under Saudi Vision 2030. The ministry aims to enhance its role in agriculture, water management, and environmental protection while fostering international collaboration.
The award underscores MEWA's commitment to sustainable development through strategic partnerships that integrate innovative solutions across various sectors. By collaborating with local and international organisations, MEWA continues to make strides toward achieving its sustainability goals.
