UAE Ministry Of Energy And Infrastructure Partners With MBRSC For Smart Maritime Navigation Solutions
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to boost cooperation in smart systems, satellite technologies, and remote sensing. The collaboration focuses on enhancing maritime monitoring, improving traffic management efficiency, and ensuring safety and security in UAE waters.
Eng. Mohammed Al Mansoori from MoEI and Salem Humaid Al Marri from MBRSC formalised the MoU during GITEX Global 2025. This partnership aligns with national goals to integrate space technology into maritime operations. It aims to track vessel movements and observe marine phenomena using satellite imagery within UAE's territorial waters.

The MoU outlines plans for developing intelligent analysis systems and digital platforms. These will combine space data with real-time navigational information. Such integration allows decision-makers to assess risks, identify patterns, and improve emergency responses at sea. The initiative also includes training national talent in space data analysis and navigation systems engineering.
A joint team will oversee future projects, ensuring the memorandum's provisions are implemented effectively. They will focus on integrating digital systems between both entities. The cooperation extends to creating algorithms for analysing satellite images to detect ships and monitor coastal changes.
This collaboration supports the UAE’s digital transformation strategy by fostering integration between space and maritime sectors. It aims to strengthen the country's position as a global leader in maritime excellence. Al Mansouri stated that this strategic step leverages modern technology for infrastructure development, particularly in the maritime sector.
Al Marri highlighted that the MoU is crucial for expanding space technology applications in vital sectors. He noted, "This collaboration with the National Maritime Centre reflects the UAE’s vision of utilizing advanced technologies and integrating national capabilities to enhance maritime security, preserve our natural resources, and reinforce the country’s position as a leading hub in space and technological innovation."
Building Integrated Systems
The agreement includes establishing a digital infrastructure linking space observation data with port operations information. This integration supports UAE's plans for enhanced maritime security and environmental sustainability. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to national efforts in both space and maritime domains.
By focusing on these areas, the MoU aims to create innovative digital solutions that improve maritime safety and sustainability. "We believe that cooperation with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre will open new horizons for innovating digital solutions that enhance the efficiency of maritime safety and security," Al Mansouri added.
The MoU represents a strategic move towards building an integrated maritime transport system based on advanced technologies like artificial intelligence. It underscores UAE's commitment to becoming a global hub for technological innovation in both maritime and space sectors.
