Ministry Of Energy And Infrastructure Showcases Key Initiatives For Energy Transition At World Utilities Congress

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) is showcasing advanced technologies to improve demand management and the use of energy and water at the World Utilities Congress. Through its involvement, the Ministry is emphasising strategic initiatives aimed at accelerating energy transition and ensuring water security, which are crucial for sustainable development.

MoEI is also focusing on ambitious strategies supporting the UAE’s net-zero target by 2050. The UAE Energy Strategy 2050 aims to triple renewable energy's share by 2030. It plans to increase clean energy capacity in the total energy mix to 30% by 2030 and boost renewables capacity to 14 GW by then.

The National Hydrogen Strategy is another key focus, aiming to position the UAE as a leader in hydrogen production by 2031. Additionally, the National Water and Energy Demand Side Management Programme 2050 targets a significant reduction in resource consumption. It aims for a 40% cut in energy use and a 51% decrease in water use by 2050 compared to usual scenarios.

Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity, Water, and Future Energy Sector at MoEI, highlighted the importance of the congress. He stated it provides a valuable platform for exchanging experiences among global experts. "It highlights the latest technologies and innovative solutions to common energy and water challenges," he said.

Al Kaabi emphasised that MoEI will continue adopting innovative energy and water technology solutions. This approach aims to enhance the UAE’s status as a global sustainability leader. He added that addressing climate change requires more investment in clean energy and efficiency technologies to reduce carbon footprints and improve life quality.

The Ministry's participation underscores its commitment to sustainable practices. By implementing these strategies, MoEI aims to contribute significantly towards achieving national sustainability goals while fostering international collaboration in tackling environmental challenges.
