Ministry Of Education Showcases Environmental Sustainability Initiatives At COP16 Exhibition In Riyadh
The Ministry of Education is actively participating in the Green Zone exhibition, which coincides with the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Riyadh. This event runs from December 2 to 13, 2024. The ministry's involvement highlights its commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation.
In recent years, the ministry has planted over 212,000 saplings around educational institutions. This effort is part of a collaboration with the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification to update tree planting data. Such initiatives are crucial for enhancing green spaces within school environments.

The Green Riyadh initiative is a focal point at the exhibition. It emphasizes a human-centric approach in school buildings to create sustainable learning environments. This involves increasing green spaces, planting trees on school grounds, improving building facades, and integrating schools into their surroundings.
These efforts align with the ministry's vision of transforming educational facilities into sustainable environmental models. The ministry collaborates with various entities, including the Government Expenditure and Projects Efficiency Authority, to achieve these goals.
Significant progress has been made in human-centered school projects across the Kingdom. Eighty schools have been selected for enhancements based on standards set by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. These improvements aim to foster a more sustainable and environmentally friendly educational environment.
At the ministry's pavilion during the exhibition, students share their experiences with tree planting initiatives. These activities are part of the ministry's efforts to educate students about environmental conservation and encourage them to address environmental challenges.
Commitment to Saudi Vision 2030
The ministry's participation in this international event reaffirms its commitment to supporting Saudi Vision 2030 goals. These goals focus on improving quality of life, increasing vegetation cover, and combating desertification. The ministry also underscores its role as a key partner in achieving sustainable development objectives.
By engaging in such initiatives, the Ministry of Education demonstrates its dedication to fostering a generation that values environmental conservation. Through these efforts, students are encouraged to take an active role in tackling environmental issues.
