Ministry Of Culture Invites Emiratis To Apply For Second National Grant Programme For Culture And Creativity

The Ministry of Culture has opened applications for the second cycle of the National Grant Programme for Culture and Creativity (NGPCC). This initiative, launched in 2023, aims to support Emirati creatives by providing grants to advance their projects. Applications are open until 1st June 2024, covering various fields such as Books and Literature, Music, Film and TV, Performing Arts and Theatre, Visual Arts and Design, Video Games, and Cultural Heritage.

The NGPCC is designed to help Emirati creatives showcase their work to local, regional, and international audiences. The programme seeks to develop a thriving creative ecosystem in the UAE by supporting home-grown talent and advancing careers. It aims to overcome financial barriers for creatives, enabling them to deliver their projects or participate in opportunities.

Culture Ministry Opens Second Grant Programme

The first cycle of the NGPCC awarded grants to 26 emerging and established Emirati creatives. Outcomes included short films, published books, theatre productions, a video game, and participation in international residencies and art fairs in Venice, Egypt, Latvia, and Poland. The success of these projects highlights the programme's impact on the UAE's cultural production.

Salem bin Khaled Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture, commented on the launch of the second cycle: "The launch of the second cycle of the National Grant Programme for Culture and Creativity illustrates the unwavering support of the Ministry of Culture for the UAE’s cultural and creative industries and promoting the UAE’s national identity and heritage. Building on the success of last year’s cycle, we would like to expand the programme’s reach and urge more creatives to come forward and submit their applications to benefit from this opportunity."

This year’s programme invites artists, designers, writers, musicians, filmmakers, and other creative professionals to submit proposals within four categories:

Creation and Production Grant

The Creation and Production Grant offers up to AED100,000 to finance new artistic works across various mediums such as film, music, performances, and video games. It supports projects that demonstrate artistic excellence and a unique vision.

Promotion and Local Participations Grant

The Promotion and Local Participations Grant provides up to AED80,000 to support the promotion and distribution of creative projects. It encourages participation in local events by covering associated costs.

Capacity Development Grant

The Capacity Development Grant offers up to AED50,000 for professional growth through learning opportunities such as short courses, residencies, and specialised training from recognised institutions.

International Travel and Mobility Grant

The International Travel and Mobility Grant provides up to AED50,000 for participation in international events. It covers travel, accommodation, and participation fees to represent the UAE on global platforms.

The NGPCC continues to be a significant initiative for fostering creativity in the UAE. By providing financial support across various categories, it aims to enhance cultural production and maximise exposure for Emirati creatives locally and internationally.
