Ministry Announces Registration For People Of Determination Students For 2024/2025

The Ministry of Community Development in the UAE has officially opened the registration window for People of Determination students for the academic year 2024/2025. This opportunity, available from 15th April until 28th June, is accessible through the ministry’s dedicated website. The initiative specifically caters to children diagnosed with intellectual disabilities, autism, and multiple disabilities where an intellectual disability is accompanied by other conditions.

Last academic year, around 53 students graduated, benefiting from a comprehensive suite of rehabilitation and educational services. These services are meticulously designed to refine various skills of the students, aiming to bolster their social inclusion, thereby fostering empowerment and ensuring their comprehensive integration into society.

The range of services offered at People of Determination centres is extensive. It includes physical and occupational therapy aimed at enhancing motor skills, speech therapy, psychological assessment, and behavior modification services. Educational classes focus on improving cognitive abilities and general life skills. Moreover, vocational rehabilitation services are provided to equip these individuals with the necessary professional skills, thereby improving their employability prospects.

For children under the age of six, early intervention centers and units offer crucial rehabilitation services. These services target children with confirmed disabilities, developmental delays, or those at risk of developmental delays. The goal is to mitigate the impact of disabilities and reduce the likelihood of developmental delays evolving into more significant disabilities. Families are also educated and involved in training programs to support their child’s development across various domains.

The Emirates Early Intervention Program plays a pivotal role in identifying children eligible for inclusion once they reach four years old. A specialized team collaborates with families to enroll these children in intensive rehabilitation programs. An individual transition plan is crafted for each child six months before inclusion begins, setting out educational goals. The effectiveness of these plans is evaluated in partnership with the Emirates Schools Establishment.

Annually, the mechanism for student inclusion into public education is executed in collaboration with the Emirates Schools Establishment. This process involves nominating eligible students for evaluation based on specific criteria and standards. Successful candidates are then integrated into the appropriate educational stage that aligns with their abilities and age.

This initiative underscores the UAE's commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment that caters to the needs of all students, particularly those with special needs. By providing tailored educational and rehabilitation services, the Ministry of Community Development aims to ensure that People of Determination can achieve their full potential and actively participate in society.
