UAE Minister Marks International Workers’ Day With Visit To Abu Dhabi Facility

On a significant visit that underscores the UAE's commitment to labour welfare, Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, along with ministry officials, toured the labour accommodation facilities managed by Workers Village Real Estate in Abu Dhabi. This visit was part of the celebrations marking International Workers' Day on 1 May. Workers Village Real Estate was lauded for its exemplary services, having clinched the top spot in the Best Labour Accommodations category of the inaugural Emirates Labour Market Award.

During his visit, Dr. Al Awar extended his congratulations to the workers on International Workers' Day and highlighted the Ministry's dedication to fostering a supportive environment for workers in the UAE. This includes ensuring healthy and safe working conditions and providing adequate housing through stringent legislation and initiatives. He stressed the importance of suitable housing for workers, which is a key priority for the Ministry, and praised the efforts made by companies to improve living conditions, which in turn enhances worker productivity and contributes to the UAE's esteemed position and competitiveness in the global labour market.

Minister's Visit on Workers’ Day

The Minister's tour of the housing facilities allowed him to observe firsthand the quality of services provided to workers. He commended Workers Village Real Estate for its adherence to established standards, regulations, and best practices. This visit also served as an opportunity to discuss the new edition of the labour accommodation electronic system launched by the Ministry. This national platform is designed to register workers' housing across the UAE, raising awareness about accommodation standards and ensuring compliance with Ministry requirements.

The system is a testament to the UAE's ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of its workers. It represents a significant step forward in monitoring and enhancing living conditions in labour accommodations, reflecting positively on both worker satisfaction and overall productivity.

Dr. Al Awar's visit and the discussions that followed underscored a clear message: The UAE is deeply committed to enhancing the living standards of its workforce. By instituting awards like the Emirates Labour Market Award for Best Labour Accommodations, which includes sustainability criteria and considers workers' wellbeing, the Ministry is setting a high bar for private companies to aspire to. Such initiatives not only benefit workers but also contribute to building a more resilient and competitive economy.

The introduction of the labour accommodation electronic system marks a pivotal advancement in this direction. By facilitating better oversight and encouraging companies to meet or exceed accommodation standards, this platform plays a crucial role in ensuring that workers in the UAE live in environments that support their health, safety, and overall wellbeing.

This concerted effort by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation reflects a broader commitment by the UAE government to uphold and enhance labour rights. It is through such measures that the UAE continues to strengthen its position as a leader in labour market competitiveness and sustainability on a global scale.
