Minister Of Transport Initiates Fifth Edition Of Safe Roads Campaign To Enhance Road Safety In Saudi Arabia

The fifth edition of the Distinct and Safe Roads campaign was launched by Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Transport General Authority (TGA). This initiative, organised by the TGA, aims to assess and evaluate Saudi Arabia's road network outside urban areas over a period of five days.

Over 620 participants are involved in this year's campaign. These include members from the transport and logistics system, university students, and the Roads Security Special Forces. Representatives from various ministries such as Communications and Information Technology, Energy, and Industry and Mineral Resources are also participating. The participants are divided into 62 teams to monitor road conditions across different regions.

Launch of Fifth Safe Roads Campaign in Saudi Arabia

Al-Jasser introduced advanced technology to measure road sign reflectivity as part of the campaign. This tool assesses the quality and clarity of road signs, especially at night or during bad weather. By using devices that measure reflected light, it ensures traffic signs remain visible and effective, identifying those needing maintenance or replacement to boost road safety.

The campaign's goal is to enhance Saudi Arabia’s road network for a safer experience for users. It includes evaluating over 73,000 kilometers of roads to ensure infrastructure sustainability and maintain high efficiency standards. This initiative builds on previous successes to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s global leadership in road connectivity.

The campaign involves documenting various road conditions like potholes, cracks, visual distortions, weak communication networks, and other factors affecting service quality for users. These efforts aim to improve mobility, enhance the visual landscape, and elevate service quality provided to road users.

Updating digital data maps of infrastructure assets is another focus area. This supports road maintenance operations while contributing to raising the quality of life for users. The ongoing development of Saudi Arabia’s transportation infrastructure is ensured through these comprehensive evaluations.

This initiative not only aims at improving roads but also focuses on maintaining high standards for future developments. By addressing current issues with innovative solutions, it seeks to provide a seamless experience for all road users in the Kingdom.
