Minister Of Environment Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley Visits Biocontrol And Bumblebee Production Centre In Qassim Region
Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley, the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, visited the Biocontrol and Bumblebee Production Center (BBPC) in Qassim. He was joined by several board members from the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (WEQAA). Upon arrival, he was greeted by WEQAA's CEO, Engineer Ayman bin Saad Al-Ghamdi, along with other leaders.
During his visit, Eng. Alfadley attended a presentation titled "Biocontrol: A Promising Future." He also launched the "Friends of Nature Initiative for the Sustainability of Our Resources." This initiative aims to promote sustainable practices in resource management. Eng. Alfadley inspected various facilities dedicated to breeding beneficial organisms.

Engineer Al-Ghamdi explained that BBPC is dedicated to advancing biological control methods. The centre produces beneficial organisms and develops technologies to enhance integrated pest management strategies. This approach aims to reduce reliance on chemical pesticides while improving environmental health.
The BBPC includes a unit for breeding flour moths, which provides clean eggs for feeding purposes. Another significant unit is dedicated to bumblebee production. Bumblebees are essential natural pollinators that help increase agricultural yields and maintain ecological balance.
Eng. Alfadley discussed plans for 2030 during his visit. He released 11 living organisms designed to control plant pests effectively. These efforts aim to preserve biodiversity and protect the environment through sustainable practices.
The WEQAA Center is committed to promoting biological control as an alternative to chemical pesticides. This environmentally friendly approach focuses on achieving advanced pest control, improving plant health, and ensuring sustainable food security through local production of beneficial organisms.
Eng. Alfadley's visit highlighted the importance of biological control in agriculture. By focusing on sustainable practices, Saudi Arabia aims to improve food security while protecting its natural resources for future generations.
