Minister Of Energy Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman Sponsors The 2024 KAPSARC Arabic Award Ceremony

The annual ceremony for the 2024 KAPSARC Arabic Award was recently held, sponsored by Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC). This event, organised in collaboration with the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language, celebrated its third edition winners. The ceremony coincided with World Arabic Language Day on December 18 and was attended by notable figures in Arabic language, energy, and contemporary sciences.

During the event, HRH the Minister of Energy emphasised the importance of Arabic as more than just a communication tool. He stated, "Arabic is not just a means of communication but the essence of our cultural identity and a cornerstone of our scientific and social development. In light of the Kingdom's significant transformations, we are committed to advancing this great heritage to keep pace with the modern era by unifying and enriching terminology to reflect innovation and progress. Arabic, as it has been throughout history, is capable of being a language of science and the future, embodying our vision and aspirations for building an advanced knowledge society. This is reaffirmed by the Saudi Vision 2030, which positions Arabic as an inseparable part of our national identity and a fundamental element in achieving scientific and cultural advancements, as well as comprehensive development."

Fahad Alajlan, President of KAPSARC, highlighted that this year's award edition saw increased participation from academics, postgraduate students from Saudi universities, authors, and translators within the Kingdom. He noted that this expansion marks a significant achievement towards enriching Arabic content in specialised fields such as energy, economics, and environmental studies. Alajlan also reiterated KAPSARC's dedication to promoting Arabic in scientific domains while encouraging diverse groups to contribute to these vital areas.

The KAPSARC Arabic Language Award was initiated in 2022 with goals to enhance scientific writing in Arabic. It aims to enrich content related to energy, economics, and environmental fields while supporting innovators in these sectors. Additionally, it encourages researchers and translators to contribute to knowledge production in Arabic.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Washmi from King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSGAAL) stressed the cultural significance of Arabic. He called for increased efforts to boost its presence across various fields like energy, science, medicine, astronomy, and artificial intelligence (AI). His remarks underscored the need for broader integration of Arabic into these disciplines.

This year's ceremony underscored Saudi Arabia's commitment to fostering its linguistic heritage while aligning with modern advancements. The event highlighted how initiatives like the KAPSARC Award play a crucial role in promoting scientific discourse in Arabic.
