Mina Al Mazrouei Raises Special Olympics Flag At Turin 2025 Opening Ceremony In Italy
Mina Al Mazrouei, an athlete from Special Olympics UAE, proudly raised the Special Olympics flag at the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin 2025. This event, which began yesterday evening in Italy, underscores the progress made by Special Olympics UAE in integrating people of determination into society through sports. The selection of a UAE athlete among 1,500 participants from 102 countries highlights the UAE's commitment to supporting these individuals.
The participation of Mina Al Mazrouei signifies international recognition of the UAE’s dedication to empowering people of determination. Talal Al Hashemi, National Director of Special Olympics UAE and Head of the UAE Delegation to Turin 2025, expressed pride in this achievement. He stated: "Since the Abu Dhabi 2019 Games, we have witnessed a new era of empowerment and excellence for people of determination in the field of sports."

Al Hashemi further commented on the importance of this moment for Emiratis: "Mina Al Mazrouei’s participation in the opening ceremony represents a moment of pride and honor for all Emiratis. It reflects the global recognition of the UAE's deep commitment to supporting and empowering people of determination." He also wished Team UAE success in their competitions.
The Special Olympics UAE delegation to Turin 2025 comprises 30 members, including 11 athletes with determination. This group is notable for competing in more sports than any other delegation from the MENA region. The athletes will participate in six sports: snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, alpine skiing, short track speed skating, and snowboarding.
Support for Team UAE comes from various partners. Mubadala has been named as the official sponsor for the delegation. Additionally, Majid Al Futtaim serves as an official partner, while collaboration with the UAE Winter Sports Federation provides further support.
Talal Al Hashemi highlighted how these achievements reflect hard work and specialised training programs that have benefited athletes like Mina Al Mazrouei. He noted that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to support individuals with intellectual and developmental challenges as adopted by their leadership.
