Hajj Begins As Over 1.5 Million Pilgrims Arrive In Mina, Embracing Faith And Unity
Over 1.5 million pilgrims from across the globe have gathered in the tent city of Mina, marking the commencement of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, one of Islam's most revered practices, Saudi Gazette reported. Chanting "Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik," these pilgrims are answering a call of faith that resonates deeply within the Muslim community. The Day of Tarwiyah, observed on Friday, Dhul-Hijjah 8, precedes a series of rituals that define the 5-6 day pilgrimage, underscoring the spiritual journey and devotion to God.
The influx of pilgrims into Mina, located seven km northeast of the Grand Mosque, began in the early hours, with the valleys and roads echoing with prayers and praises. This gathering, drawing participants from about 180 countries, reflects one of the largest religious congregations worldwide, reaffirming the universal message of Islam beyond geographical boundaries.
Upon their arrival in Makkah, pilgrims performed the Tawaf Al-Qudum, an essential ritual, before proceeding to Mina. The pilgrimage emulates the noble tradition of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), focusing on supplication, forgiveness, and spiritual preparation for the Standing at Arafat, a cornerstone of the Hajj occurring on Saturday.
Imams at the Two Holy Mosques delivered sermons emphasizing piety, unity, and the significance of Hajj in erasing differences and fostering a global Muslim community. Sheikh Bandar bin Abdulaziz and Dr. Abdul Bari Al-Thubaiti shared messages of devotion, equality, and the pursuit of God's grace, highlighting the pilgrimage as a time for reflection and renewal.
This year's Hajj includes 3,322 guests of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, showcasing the Kingdom's hospitality and support for the Muslim community. Notably, the pilgrimage also welcomes Palestinian families, Syrian pilgrims returning after 12 years, and families of successfully separated conjoined twins, underlining the inclusive spirit of Hajj.
Media representatives from over 150 countries are on-site, documenting this significant event and sharing the profound experiences of pilgrims with the world. The smooth progression of pilgrims to Mina is a testament to the meticulous planning and efforts of Saudi authorities, ensuring a fulfilling pilgrimage experience despite the challenges posed by high temperatures.
The Ministry of Health has issued advisories to pilgrims regarding the intense heat in Makkah, stressing the importance of staying hydrated, seeking shade, and adhering to health guidelines to mitigate the risks of sun exposure. The dedication of pilgrims, braving the heat with white umbrellas and adhering to safety measures, epitomizes the resilience and commitment that the Hajj demands.
As the pilgrimage continues, the collective prayers and rituals performed by millions in Mina represent a powerful expression of faith and unity. The Hajj, as one of the five pillars of Islam, not only strengthens individual devotion but also binds the Muslim Ummah together in a shared spiritual journey, transcending geographical, cultural, and social divides.
