Microsoft Launches First Datacenter Academy In Saudi Arabia To Boost Digital Skills And Employment
Microsoft Arabia, in collaboration with the National IT Academy (NITA), has announced the launch of its first Datacenter Academy (DCA) in the Middle East, set to open in Saudi Arabia. This initiative, revealed during LEAP 2025, aims to equip students with practical datacenter skills over a two-year period. The goal is to enhance their employability in technical roles and support Saudi Arabia's economic diversification efforts.
The Microsoft DCA is designed to develop a skilled national workforce capable of leading the region's datacenter industry. By focusing on building digital infrastructure and fostering innovation, the academy aligns with Saudi Vision 2030. It aims to position the Kingdom as a global hub for datacenters and digital transformation. This initiative coincides with Microsoft's progress on its datacenter region in Saudi Arabia, where construction of three Azure Availability Zones is complete, with availability expected by 2026.

NITA’s executive director Nora Al-Shaikh expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, stating, "This partnership with Microsoft represents a significant milestone in our journey to establish Saudi Arabia as a global hub for datacenters. The Microsoft Data Center Academy will empower professionals with the expertise needed to drive the Kingdom’s digital transformation and realize the ambitions of Vision 2030." The academy supports local talent development by providing training programs that are accessible and high-quality.
The curriculum at the Microsoft Datacenter Academy covers essential competencies for roles within the technology sector. It includes training in datacenter infrastructure management, IT support, troubleshooting, and mechanical services. Students also receive experiential learning in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, automation, and cybersecurity. Upon completion, participants can earn either a certificate or diploma.
Microsoft Arabia vice president of national digital transformation Zainab Alamin highlighted the significance of this initiative: "The launch of the first Microsoft Datacenter Academy in the Middle East underscores our commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia's ambitious vision to become a global hub for digital innovation. This academy will equip professionals with highly specialized technical skills needed to thrive in the era of AI."
The establishment of this academy is part of Microsoft's broader efforts to provide communities worldwide with practical training programs. By focusing on areas like IT support and cloud technologies, it equips participants with globally recognized certifications necessary for high-demand technical roles. This ensures that NITA students gain access to specialized skills required for success in the rapidly evolving datacenter industry.
Future Prospects
Microsoft's datacenter region is expected to significantly impact Saudi Arabia's cloud market. Projections indicate growth at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.4 percent, reaching $3.9 billion by 2027. Through initiatives like these, Microsoft aims to foster local talent and create new economic opportunities while preparing Saudi Arabia's workforce for future digital transformations.
This strategic move not only introduces advanced technology but also strengthens Saudi Arabia's position as a leader in digital innovation. By empowering professionals with necessary expertise, it contributes towards achieving Vision 2030 goals and establishing the Kingdom as a prominent player in global datacenter operations.
