Saudi Arabia's Media Oasis Project Shortlisted For Prestigious WSIS Prizes 2024

The Media Oasis project, an initiative by the Ministry of Media, has been selected for nomination at the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2024 Prizes. This prestigious recognition by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) places the project as a representative for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the government media sector category. The nomination, occurring just one year post its launch in 2023, positions Media Oasis among over a thousand global projects vying for this year's accolade.

Media Oasis stands out as the sole government representative from the Kingdom in the media sector category. This distinction underscores the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Media and its partners across both government and private sectors. These partnerships have been instrumental in producing five editions of Media Oasis, both locally and internationally, thereby amplifying the Kingdom's major national transformation projects on a global stage.

The project's significance is further magnified by its alignment with several key international and regional events. For instance, the inaugural edition of Media Oasis was launched during the 32nd Arab Summit in Jeddah on May 18-19, 2023. Subsequent editions were strategically held alongside notable events such as the annual Grand Hajj Symposium, the G20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, and the Saudi-African Summit in Diriyah, Riyadh. The fifth edition coincided with the Kingdom's involvement in the 173rd General Assembly meeting for Expo 2030 host selection.

Media Oasis has rapidly become a focal point for media coverage of significant events within the Kingdom, offering a dedicated space for over 2,600 national and international journalists from more than 70 countries. These journalists have contributed to over 440 news articles, highlighting the project's impact and reach. Additionally, over 380 presenters from more than 65 government entities have participated in these events, further showcasing the collaborative spirit of Media Oasis.

The project's success is also reflected in its reception, attracting over 9,800 guests worldwide across its five editions and receiving coverage from over 455 media outlets. This extensive engagement underscores Media Oasis's role in enhancing Saudi Arabia's media presence on a global scale.

As voting for the WSIS Prizes 2024 progresses until March 31, interested parties can cast their votes through a designated link provided by ITU. This voting process offers an opportunity for global recognition of Saudi Arabia's innovative contributions to the government media sector through Media Oasis.

The nomination of Media Oasis for the WSIS Prizes 2024 not only highlights its significance within Saudi Arabia but also underscores its contribution to global media landscapes. As this project continues to evolve, it serves as a testament to Saudi Arabia's commitment to fostering international collaboration and showcasing its transformative projects worldwide.
