MCIT Unveils Comprehensive Roadmap To Enhance Deep Tech Ecosystem In Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in collaboration with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and "Hello Tomorrow," has unveiled the Deep Tech Report. This report outlines the current landscape and future potential of Saudi Arabia's deep tech ecosystem, aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. It highlights opportunities within this crucial sector, seen as vital for digital economy growth and sustainable development.

The report identifies five key pillars essential to the deep tech ecosystem in Saudi Arabia: investment, infrastructure and ecosystem enablers, talent, policies, regulations, and government incentives. These elements are crucial for fostering a robust environment that supports technological advancement. The report also underscores the importance of research, development, and innovation in establishing Saudi Arabia as a global leader in advanced technologies.

MCIT Launches Deep Tech Ecosystem Roadmap

Significant growth is evident in Saudi Arabia's deep tech sector. Notably, 50% of startups focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). Over 43 high-growth startups are driving innovation across the Kingdom. In 2022 alone, these startups secured more than $987 million in funding from 104 investors. This financial backing underscores the sector's potential for innovation and economic contribution.

Since 2015, there has been a remarkable 75% increase in researchers within Saudi Arabia. This rise reflects the nation's dedication to advancing research and development capabilities. Such commitment is pivotal for nurturing an environment conducive to technological breakthroughs and sustainable progress.

Vice Minister for Technology Mohammed Robayan emphasized that this report marks a significant step towards solidifying Saudi Arabia's status as a global hub for advanced technologies. By focusing on innovation and investing in talent and infrastructure, the Kingdom aims to create an integrated ecosystem that facilitates digital transformation and sustainable growth.

Robayan urged stakeholders from both public and private sectors, including academic institutions and investors, to utilize insights from the report. He encouraged them to develop strategies that promote innovation and contribute to achieving Saudi Vision 2030's objectives.
