MBZUAI Spearheads Educational Advancement At The 2024 Middle East Conference
Over 50 delegates from educational institutions worldwide convened at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence’s (MBZUAI) campus in Masdar City, aiming to enhance their institutions’ missions through strategic advancements. This gathering was part of the 2024 Middle East Advancement Conference (MEAC), hosted by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), a leading global non-profit association for education professionals. Marking its first occurrence in Abu Dhabi, the MEAC delved into international best practices across various domains including alumni relations, career services, student recruitment, and marketing communications.
The conference, noted for its diversity with participants from 11 countries, spanned two days of intensive discussions and learning sessions. Educational leaders shared insights on advancement strategies, the role of mentoring in alumni relations, campaign success stories, and the formation of effective international alumni advisory boards. A highlight was the closing plenary which explored the influence of artificial intelligence on advancement professionals within the educational sector, offering tools for strategic leadership decision-making.

Lea Sublett, MBZUAI’s associate director of alumni relations and MEAC 2024 co-chair, emphasized the conference's role in fostering knowledge exchange and networking. She highlighted how the event showcased the UAE's efforts in creating a globally networked approach to recruitment and alumni relations. This approach aims to address current and future skill shortages by nurturing a pipeline of unique talents.
The conference kicked off with a leadership panel discussing future opportunities and challenges in education. Esteemed panelists included Professor Timothy Baldwin, MBZUAI’s acting provost; Professor Mariët Westermann, NYU Abu Dhabi’s vice chancellor; Professor Tadhg O’Donovan, Heriot-Watt University’s chief scientist and deputy vice principal of Dubai campus; and Jane Chafer, CASE’s vice president of membership, marketing, and communication.
Jane Chafer expressed her enthusiasm for bringing the conference back to the region during CASE's 50th anniversary year. She noted the vibrant energy and commitment demonstrated by both delegates and speakers. The sessions covered a broad spectrum of advancement topics from social media strategies to alumni engagement techniques. The opening plenary set a constructive tone for the conference, with leaders sharing valuable perspectives on how advancement professionals can contribute to their institutions' strategic goals.
This edition of MEAC not only served as a platform for sharing best practices but also highlighted the evolving role of AI in shaping the future of educational advancement. By bringing together a diverse group of educators and professionals, the conference underscored the importance of collaboration and innovation in driving institutional success and enhancing value for students, alumni, faculty, and the wider community.
