MBZUAI Launches NextGen Summer Program To Inspire Future Leaders In Artificial Intelligence
The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has initiated the NextGen Summer Program. This week-long event aims to introduce high school students in Grades 10–12 to artificial intelligence, innovation, and emerging technologies. Held at the MBZUAI campus in Abu Dhabi, it brings together 38 top-performing students from across the UAE for practical workshops and expert-led sessions.
Selected from over 150 applicants, these students will engage in projects that apply AI to real-world sectors like healthcare, mobility, climate, and creative industries. The programme's emphasis on real-world applications distinguishes it from others. Students will use platforms such as Python, Google Colab, and Kaggle to work with actual datasets under the guidance of MBZUAI faculty and industry mentors.

Participants will explore how AI models are designed, tested, and evaluated. Sessions on AI ethics and bias will highlight the importance of using technology responsibly. These discussions aim to raise awareness about the broader societal impacts of AI. The programme also includes insights into future career paths in this rapidly evolving field.
Rawdha AlMeraikhi, Director of Outreach at MBZUAI, stated: "We designed NextGen to spark curiosity, build skills, and give students a realistic glimpse into the future of AI, not just as a technology, but as a tool to create meaningful change. It’s a unique opportunity for students to build confidence, explore their potential in one of the world’s most impactful fields, and potentially become the next MBZUAI students and future leaders in AI."
The initiative supports the UAE’s vision to enhance national capabilities in advanced technology. It aligns with the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. This strategy aims to position the country as a global leader in AI innovation and adoption. Additionally, it complements Abu Dhabi’s goal of becoming the world’s first fully AI-native government by 2027.
This immersive programme not only provides hands-on experience but also fosters an understanding of AI's potential impact on society. By equipping students with essential skills and knowledge, MBZUAI is contributing to building a future-ready workforce capable of leading advancements in artificial intelligence.
