MBRSC And HCT Collaborate On Groundbreaking Student-Led HCT-SAT 1 Space Mission

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has joined forces with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) to initiate the HCT-SAT 1 project, marking a significant milestone in the UAE's educational and space exploration sectors. This project represents the first student-led space mission under the collaboration, focusing on the development of an Earth-observation CubeSat. The CubeSat, measuring 10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm, is scheduled for launch by the end of 2024.

Under the guidance of MBRSC engineers, students from various academic backgrounds at HCT are engaging in this ambitious project. They are gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of satellite development, including design, assembly, and operational management. This initiative is not just about launching a satellite; it's an extensive educational journey for both students and faculty members, aimed at embedding space technology into the curriculum and advancing the UAE's standing in space science.

A total of 34 HCT students from disciplines such as aviation sciences, airframe design, electrical engineering, and applied media are working together on this project. They are supported by nine faculty members, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to both the technical and marketing aspects of the mission.

Salem Humaid AlMarri, Director General of MBRSC, emphasized the importance of nurturing innovation and excellence among youth. "The HCT-SAT 1 project underlines our commitment to using education in STEM fields as a catalyst for inspiring future space pioneers," AlMarri stated. He expressed confidence that this hands-on experience would significantly contribute to achieving the UAE's ambitious space exploration goals.

Dr. Faisal Alayyan, President & CEO of HCT, praised the strategic partnership with MBRSC. He highlighted that this initiative is crucial for equipping students with advanced knowledge in space sciences and raising awareness about the UAE's strategic advancements in space exploration. "This collaboration is a key part of our nation's vision to secure a leading position in the global space industry," Dr. Alayyan remarked.

The partnership between MBRSC and HCT aims to integrate space technology into the educational framework effectively. By doing so, it provides students with unique opportunities to delve into the space sector, enhancing their understanding of space science and preparing them to contribute significantly to the UAE's burgeoning space industry.
