Mawani Reports Significant 4.29% Increase In Cargo Throughput For November 2024

The Saudi Ports Authority, known as Mawani, reported a 4.29% rise in cargo throughput for November 2024, reaching 24,735,561 tons compared to 23,717,049 tons in November 2023. The increase highlights the growing activity at the ports under Mawani's supervision.

In terms of container movement, outward containers saw a notable increase of 23%, totalling 261,030 containers compared to 212,216 in November of the previous year. Inward containers also rose by 15.62%, reaching 259,355 containers from last year's figure of 224,324.

Mawani Sees Cargo Throughput Rise in November

Despite these gains, overall container handling decreased by 9.14% in November 2024. The total number of containers handled dropped to 670,185 from 737,628 in November 2023. Transshipment containers experienced a significant decline of 49.43%, falling to 138,866 from the previous year's count of 274,203.

General cargo processed during the month amounted to 1,131,939 tons. Dry bulk cargo reached a total of 3,598,925 tons while liquid bulk cargo was recorded at 13,057,383 tons. These figures reflect the diverse nature of goods handled at Saudi ports.

The ports received fewer livestock in November 2024 with a total of 716,541 heads. This marks a decrease of 4.98% compared to the same month in the previous year when they received 754,124 heads.

On a positive note for vehicle imports, there was an increase of 11.82%. The number rose to 99,760 vehicles compared to the previous year's figure of 89,214 vehicles during November.

Vessel and Passenger Traffic

The number of vessels arriving at Saudi ports decreased by 6.96%, with only 949 ships recorded compared to last year's count of 1,020 ships for November. Passenger traffic also saw a decline of 15.78%, totalling only 66,422 passengers compared to the previous year's figure of 78,865 passengers.

In October 2024, Mawani achieved an impressive year-on-year growth in cargo throughput by handling a total of 27,012,128 tons. This represents an increase of 8.26% over October's figure from the prior year which stood at24,951,573 tons.

The upward trend continued with outward containers rising by14%, reaching254,832 units while inward containers increased by10%, totalling248,216 units compared to October last year.
