He highlighted the successful cooperation between Sharjah and Mauritania in fostering cultural events and strengthening bilateral relations.

Praise for Sharjah's Cultural Initiatives

The Minister emphasised the shared cultural heritage between Mauritania and Sharjah, especially concerning manuscripts. Mauritania has initiated several projects to preserve its historical heritage. This includes renewed research at the Almoravid cradle site after decades without activity.

Ould Amdou also expressed enthusiasm about Nouakchott’s preparations for its first international book fair. He acknowledged Sharjah’s significant role in Arab cultural development. He praised Sharjah for hosting major cultural institutions and celebrated the achievement of making the historical Arabic dictionary accessible to a wider Arab audience.

Al Owais highlighted the enduring cultural collaboration between Sharjah and Mauritania, which began with the Sharjah Forum for Young Poets in 2012. He mentioned ongoing partnerships like establishing the House of Poetry in Nouakchott and planning for the Mauritanian Literature Festival in 2024.

During their meeting, Al Owais conveyed greetings from H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah to Ould Amdou. He expressed hopes for continued success in future cultural initiatives. The meeting was also attended by Walid Al-Nas Ould Hannoun, Director of the Ministry’s Department of Culture, and Dr. Abdullah Al-Sayed, Director of the Nouakchott Poetry House.

The collaboration between these regions underscores a commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering new opportunities for artistic expression and literary development across borders.
