Masdar City Free Zone Clinches Three Awards For Growth, SMEs Support And Innovation
Masdar City Free Zone has received three major honours from Business Tabloid Publications, highlighting its rapid expansion, strong technology focus, and support for entrepreneurs across the UAE. The recognition follows a year of sharp growth in new companies and jobs, underlining the free zone's role in attracting innovation-focused businesses to Abu Dhabi and the wider Middle East.
The awards named Masdar City Free Zone as the Fastest Growing Free Zone in the UAE, the Best Free Zone for SMEs, and the Best Free Zone for Innovation and Technology. Dr. Mohamed Al Breiki, Executive Director of Masdar City, accepted the honours at a ceremony, representing a business community that has seen clear expansion and wider economic impact during 2025.

Growth indicators for Masdar City Free Zone in 2025 show strong momentum. The free zone reported a +36 percent increase in total attracted companies, equal to a 172 percent year-on-year rise. Around 1,000 new companies joined during 2025, taking the total number of registered businesses to more than 2,000, with over 1,000 of these identified as start-ups.
Employment creation also moved higher. Masdar City Free Zone recorded a +33 percent rise in job opportunities, corresponding to a +71 percent increase year-on-year. The figures point to a growing innovation hub that is adding both new firms and skilled roles, supporting Abu Dhabi's wider diversification goals and the UAE's knowledge-focused economy.
{TABLE_1}The Best Free Zone for SMEs award reflects Masdar City Free Zone's emphasis on smaller businesses, which now account for more than half of all registered companies. The free zone provides affordability, flexible space options, and tailored support services, helping early-stage ventures and growing firms to establish operations and expand in a predictable, cost-conscious environment.
A key element of this support system is a flexi R&D laboratory, which is open to companies of every size. The facility gives start-ups and established firms access to research and testing infrastructure that might otherwise be costly. This allows teams to develop prototypes, refine technologies, and prepare products for market within the same urban innovation district.

Regulatory and financial support structures are built around the same innovation goals. Masdar City Free Zone streamlines registration and licensing, offers sector-focused business packages, and provides both incubation and fund-seeding opportunities. These are delivered through The Catalyst, a dedicated venture arm that backs clean-tech and innovation-led companies, helping them progress from concept to market-ready operations.
The Best Free Zone for Innovation and Technology award highlights this research-driven environment. Masdar City Free Zone hosts companies across six specialised clusters: artificial intelligence, agritech, life sciences, energy, smart mobility, and space technology. Major organisations on site include the International Renewable Energy Agency, the UAE Space Agency, and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, anchoring a strong knowledge base.
