Masdar City's New Developments Secure Prestigious WiredScore And SmartScore Accolades
Masdar City, a prominent sustainability and innovation hub in Abu Dhabi, has secured the WiredScore Platinum and SmartScore Gold certifications for its upcoming Masdar City Square and The Link developments. These certifications serve as global benchmarks for digital integration in urban environments, akin to LEED certifications for sustainable buildings.
Masdar City Square consists of seven commercial buildings with a gross floor area of 50,000 square metres. The development offers advanced office spaces featuring exceptional digital connectivity and smart functionality. Scheduled for completion in 2025, The Link comprises five commercial and residential buildings with a gross floor area of 30,000 square metres. It aims to create a mixed-use environment that integrates living and working spaces with advanced technological infrastructure.

Benjamin Rumsey, Senior Manager of Sustainable Development and Investments at Masdar City, stated, "These first-of-their-kind certifications in Masdar City demonstrate our commitment to delivering best-in-class real estate solutions to our partners and tenants." He added that the certification process was initiated during the construction period, achieving Platinum and Gold without any design modifications. This validates that the assets are planned to the highest international standards in terms of digital connectivity, smart functionality, sustainability, and wellness.
Industry Recognition
John Hilliard, Head of Middle East at WiredScore, remarked, "I am thrilled that we could help Masdar City position its newest office developments at the forefront of a rapidly growing Grade A pipeline in the UAE." He noted that achieving WiredScore Platinum and SmartScore Gold demonstrates exceptional connectivity, resilience, smart functionality, and readiness to incorporate future technologies as tenant requirements evolve.
Support from Elevation
Masdar City's certification efforts were supported by Elevation, a strategic building energy and carbon advisory organisation. Paul Paterson, CEO of Elevation, expressed his satisfaction: "I am delighted that Elevation had the opportunity to contribute to Masdar City's latest development in Abu Dhabi." He highlighted that this achievement aligns with their core business of providing accredited professional services to support innovative and sustainable urban development.
Enhanced Reputation
These awards further enhance Masdar City's distinguished reputation. The city is home to one of the world's largest clusters of LEED Platinum-certified buildings, comprising 21 completed structures with more planned. This accomplishment positions Masdar City Square and The Link as leading developments globally.
