Masdar And Albania Power Corporation Forge Agreement To Develop Renewable Energy Projects At COP29
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, known as Masdar, and Albania Power Corporation (KESH) have entered into a joint venture agreement. This collaboration aims to explore renewable energy projects in Albania on a large scale. The signing took place during COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, with notable figures like Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama and Dr. Sultan Al Jaber present.
The agreement focuses on developing renewable energy projects using solar PV, wind, and hybrid technologies. It also considers integrating battery storage solutions. The energy generated will cater to the Albanian market and be exported to nearby countries. Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi of Masdar and Erald Elezi of KESH signed the agreement.

Dr. Al Jaber remarked that this partnership highlights the UAE's dedication to clean energy solutions globally. He stated, "This agreement is a testament to the UAE's unwavering commitment to pioneering clean energy solutions on a global scale." The collaboration aims to meet ambitious goals set by the UAE Consensus, which targets tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Belinda Balluku, Albania's Deputy Prime Minister, emphasised the importance of this partnership for Albania's sustainable energy future. She noted that it not only advances domestic goals but also strengthens Albania's position in the European energy market. Balluku said, "The partnership between KESH and Masdar is a significant moment not only for Albania's journey towards a sustainable and secure energy sector."
This venture seeks to leverage KESH's leading role in Albania's energy sector alongside Masdar's global expertise in renewable development. It aims to accelerate Albania’s transition to clean energy while enhancing its role in the European market. The collaboration will benefit from Masdar’s connections with technology providers and financial institutions.
Al Ramahi highlighted the significance of this venture for Masdar’s expansion into Southeast Europe. He stated, "The joint venture term sheet with KESH will mark a significant milestone in Masdar's expansion into the Balkans and Southeast Europe." This partnership aligns with Masdar’s goal of achieving 100GW by 2030.
Future Prospects
Erald Elezi expressed that this joint venture marks a pivotal step in Albania’s renewable journey. He mentioned that although Albania already has a green energy mix, this partnership will enhance resilience and stability while opening avenues for clean energy exports. Elezi stated, "This joint venture with Masdar is a pivotal advancement in Albania's renewable energy journey."
The collaboration between Masdar and KESH is part of a broader strategic partnership between the UAE and Albania. It aims to boost Albania’s renewable capacity while supporting its export capabilities to neighbouring regions.
